The State of Delaware has announced that there will be a DUI checkpoint in Newport, Delaware this Friday, May 25. Any motorists driving in the vicinity of Newport, which is a small city south of Wilmington in New Castle County, DE, should be aware that they are subject to being stopped without reasonable suspicion and without probable cause, and subjected to police intrusion in an attempt to detect illegal behavior. If you are a motorist in Delaware, please remember:
1. Don’t drink and drive.
2. Don’t drive in or near Newport on Friday.
3. If stopped by police, you have the Constitutional right to remain silent. There is nothing stopping you from telling police officers that you wish to remain silent, and that you want an attorney present prior to any interrogation.
