The State of Delaware has announced that it will be conducting DUI checkpoints to screen for drunk drivers the weekend of October 19 and 20, 2012. There will be three DUI / DWI checkpoints in Delaware this coming weekend as follows:
1) On Friday, October 19th, there will be a checkpoint in Wilmington, Delaware to try to separate the innocent motorists being harrassed by police without reasonable suspicion to stop them from those who may have an elevated blood alcohol content;
2) Also on Friday,  October 19, there will be a second DUI checkpoint located in Seaford, DE.
3) Finally, on Saturday, October 20th, there will be a DUI checkpoint located in Woodside, Delaware. For those of you who don't know where that it is, it's south of Dover, down Route 13.

Although we do not approve of or recommend drinking and driving, we don't approve of DUI checkpoints either. In our view, DUI checkpoints are an obstruction, harrassing and detaining innocent motorists and their passengers in an effort to weed out the very, very few who actually might be guilty of something. There have been over 3,800 DUI arrests so far this year in Delaware and less than 200 have been from DUI checkpoints.
